BMW’s niche-making X6 will become the car maker’s biggest and most powerful 4WD when it goes on sale in 2008, but it will also be less practical than either of its smaller siblings, the X3 and X5.
BMW has released the first official pictures and details for the production version of the X6 4WD four-door ‘coupe’ that it previewed in concept form at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show.
As expected, there are virtually no changes in the transition from the Frankfurt motor show concept to the real-world BMW X6 that goes on sale in Australia in July 2008 and, according to BMW, will create a brand new 4WD segment that appeals to performance-car enthusiasts.BWM finally showed off its two-mode hybrid system (the first BMW with two-mode hybrid system) at Frankfurt Motorshow, the idea behind this concept car is “merging the athletic aesthetics of a true sports car with the versatility of an SAV resulted in a new vehicle category that so far has not been realized” as stated on the BMW website. Quoted from Chris Bangle as Chief of Design for BMW Group about BMW concept x6 : “a good concept realizes itself in a short amount of time”. There is no official technical statement from BMW about this BMW X6, but the hybrid system expected to improve fuel efficiency by 20 percent. This car was only a concept till now, I believe this is going to be the basic of the next model BMW car.

• The interior of the BMW X1 is characterised by clear function and trendsetting, modern style. The driver orientation so typical of BMW is additionally accentuated by the forward-pushing lines within the cockpit area. Sophisticated materials and natural colours accentuate the youthful and dynamic flair of the vehicle.
• The elevated seating position, a generous feeling of space, the wide range of storage options and the variable interior offer ideal conditions for enjoying the BMW X1 both in an urban environment and beyond, with agility, spontaneity and versatility of the highest calibre. Three full-sized seats at the rear offer generous space and freedom of movement. The rear-seat backrest is adjustable for angle and folds down in a 40/20/20 split. Luggage compartment capacity may be increased from 420 litres/14.7 cu ft to a maximum of 1,350 litres/47.3 cu ft. An electrically operated Panorama glass roof is available as an option.
• Modern drivetrain technology gives the BMW X1 superior performance and supreme efficiency all in one. Depending on the model variant, the driver benefits from powerful, economical and low-emission gasoline and diesel engines, BMW's intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive technology, as well as a wide range of BMW EfficientDynamics features including Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start Stop, and a gearshift point indicator. The BMW X1 sDrive18d with rear-wheel drive and average fuel consumption to the EU standard of 5.2 litres/100 kilometres (equal to 54.3 mpg imp) and a CO2 rating of 136 grams/ kilometre offers the highest standard of efficiency all round.
• The cutting-edge suspension technology featured in the BMW X1 comprises a double-joint thrust bar or, respectively, an aluminium double-joint tiebar axle at the front and a five-arm rear axle in lightweight steel, high-precision power steering, high-performance brakes, Dynamic Stability Control including Dynamic Traction Control and, as an option, Performance Control acting on the brakes for particularly dynamic driving behaviour.
• The BMW X1 features a special body structure designed from the outset for maximum occupant safety. Standard features include three-point inertia-reel seat belts all round, frontal and side airbags as well as head airbags at the side, adaptive Brake Lights and daytime driving lights. Xenon headlights, Adaptive Headlights and a High-Beam Assistant are all available as an option.
• In conjunction with the optional Business and Professional navigation systems, the BMW X1 is equipped with the latest generation of BMW iDrive including a Controller and direct selection buttons on the centre console, a Control Display harmoniously integrated in the instrument panel, and favourite buttons beneath the control panel for
the air conditioning featured as standard. The most sophisticated HiFi systems are available as an alternative to the audio system fitted as standard and the AUX-In port likewise featured as standard may be supplemented by a USB interface. Numerous driver assistance systems and the wide range of BMW ConnectedDrive services are also available.

Having already breathed new life into the ailing Mini brand, the creative volk at leading German car manufacturer BMW are looking to build on the associated trend appeal of the existing Mini and Mini Clubman editions with the decidedly green Mini E.
While the Mini’s impressive fuel efficiency and low CO2 output have already helped it carve a niche as one of the world’s most eco-friendly cars, BMW’s new Mini E is a clear and focused attempt to secure undisputed ecological credentials thanks to the introduction of an all-electric engine.
According to BMW, the Mini E will be powered by a 150 kW (204 horse power) electric motor fed by a high-performance rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Also, the Mini E’s drive will be transferred to its front wheels via a single-stage helical gearbox, making the car almost completely silent and entirely free of emissions.
In terms of single-charge distance coverage, BMW claims the Mini E’s battery technology will give the car a maximum operational range in excess of 240 kilometres, which is the equivalent of around 150 miles.
Interestingly, rather than rolling out the Mini E for general consumption, BMW has said that it will initially launch a fleet of 500 vehicles through a pilot project involving select private and corporate customers in California, New York and New Jersey. The company is also considering a similar introduction in Europe.

While we like the Z4, it’s more expensive and less powerful than the Porsche Boxster S which immediately makes it hard to recommend. It’s great to sit really low, look out over a long bonnet from over the rear wheels and drive a car that has good performance and great handling, but the Porsche is as good in all those respects, if not better. We wish the BMW interior was a bit more upmarket and perhaps had a few more features too.

BMW always makes quality engines and the 3.0-litre unit in the sDrive30i is no exception. Its smooth and energetic with the perfect character for the car and the BMW brand – quick to respond and insistent in its acceleration, but refined at the same time with consistent delivery right up to the redline – no sudden lumps of power to be had here. With 258bhp it’s not massively powerful, but there’s still enough grunt to put a smile on your face.

In October 2009, the smallest Sports Activity Vehicle from BMW started to hit the market, especially in the United Kingdom. And in 2010, the sales of the vehicle in the UK has reached fantastic number – there are more than 6,300 units sold out.
And now, after receiving the M Sport specification, BMW hopes that the X1 will get more popularity in the UK. It is predicted that the sales of the vehicle is going to keep increasing in this year.
The M Sport treatment includes the addition of some magnificent features on the X1. Few notable features are M Sport multi-function steering wheel, 17-inch star-spoke M alloy wheels, sport seats, High-gloss Shadowline exterior trim on the windows, and chrome plated door sill finishers with M designation.
For the BMW X1 18d sDrive M Sport, the on-the-road (OTR) prices begun from £26,615. And for the 18d xDrive M Sport, the OTR prices begun from £27,710.
Meanwhile, the pricing of the BMW X3 M Sport has also been announced by BMW. For an xDrive 20d M Sport, the OTR prices begun from £33,830.
