Active Cruise Control is an extension and enhancement of conventional cruise control. This system allows you to maintain a pre-selected speed on the road, and also monitors the distance between your car and the vehicle ahead of you. The radar sensors and control unit are combined to form one system fitted at the front end of the car beneath the bumper. The particular benefit offered by this system is that when your BMW catches up with a vehicle ahead, the system will automatically slow down your car and keep a specific distance you have chosen in advance (four different settings possible).
Once the road ahead is free again, Active Cruise Control will accelerate your car automatically to the pre-selected speed. To deactivate the system, just briefly press down the accelerator pedal. This system allows drivers to concentrate in full on the traffic around them, while at the same time enhancing driving comfort by a significant standard. It nevertheless remains the drivers responsibility to maintain an appropriate style of motoring at all times.
