Like no other Audi ever created the new R8 has outlived any previous expectations as being the most beautiful and superb Audi ever released. At first glance it may look like an upgrade on the extremely popular Audi TT, however this car is in a league of its own as Audi venture into the realms of the 'Supercar'.
The 2010 Audi R8 boasts an impressive V10 engine and 525 bhp and is available in 4.2 and 5.2 litre engines. This combined with its lightweight Aluminum chassis gives it the ingredients for an absolutely stunning supercar. At its best, it can reach top speeds of 187 mph and goes from 0-60 in a mere 4.6 secs. These stats put it in direct competition with some extremely impressive supercars including the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and the more traditional Porsche 911 Carrera. However it seems to hold its own
Audi may be renowned for building cars that are slightly better to look at than they are to drive compared to their rivals; however the new R8 completely redefines who Audi are. This car is nothing short of astounding in both its looks and drivability. Around a track it is impressive both on the straights and through the corners. It grips the road like no other Audi and through the corners remains controllable due to its four-wheel drive system. This system has also been tuned to ensure no more than 30% of the power ever reaches the front wheels which perfectly solves the problem of under steer.
The car uses the same aluminum construction and some of the same parts as the Lamborgini Gallardo which shows the sheer quality of production and helps you understand why this is such a magnificent car. However the main advantage of this car is that it is a supercar suitable for everyday use. Due to it being an Audi, this car is durable and a delight to drive both round a track and through the city. It is the perfect combination of exhilaration and practicality. Although only a two seater, it feels roomy and comfortable to sit in once your inside.
The only downside that can be mentioned when reviewing this car, is the fact that once you have stopped, you may find it difficult to carry on driving through the swarm of people surrounding your car. There is no doubt that this is one of the most eye-catching cars ever produced by Audi and will definitely attract some attention. These cars are highly sort after and sometimes difficult to get hold of so if you are lucky enough to get your hands on one, you can rest in the understanding you own one truly amazing car.
