The Element first went on sale in 2003, and its strange anti-styling made it pretty popular in its inaugural year. In 2003, 67,478 Honda Elements were sold. Only 12,960 Honda Elements have been sold this year through November, according to The Detroit News. The Honda CR-V, which is closely related to the Element and sells in the same segment, sold 180,589 units this year.

The Element has seen sales decline every years since its debut in 2003. That’s hardly surprising. Seven years is a long time for a vehicle to go without a redesign. More importantly, the Honda CR-V, which is the best selling car in the small SUV segment, according to The Detroit News, was redesigned in 2006. It’s hard for buyers to get excited about the Element when the styling dates back to before the Red Sox won the World Series, especially when parked next to a newer CR-V.
